Preparing For Your Survey
Condition and Valuation Survey
Take a few steps to prepare your vessel for the survey. This will help expedite the process for you and the surveyor.
Make all hatches available for surveyor to access various holds and the lazarette. As practical, remove excess equipment and supplies from inspection areas.
Have paperwork and relevant documentation ready to present to the surveyor. This includes ship's documentation or registration papers. Also be prepared with information related to recent repairs, servicing, and equipment changes.
All gear and equipment included with the vessel should be made available to the surveyor for inspection and inventory.
Audio Gauge Survey
Our CYGNUS 4 equipment will take readings through securely adhered coatings and bottom paint, so it is not necessary to remove those coatings. However, the vessel bottom and any areas scheduled for audio gauging must be cleaned of any marine growth and free of loose paint, rust scale, and any surface obstructions prior to beginning the audio gauge survey.
It is the vessel owner’s responsibility to have the designated surfaces ready for the inspection.
Any topside surfaces to be audio gauged, such as decks and tankage, must be accessible and free of loose paint, rust scale, and debris.
Be sure to have ladders or scaffolding in place to reach all areas of the vessel bottom.
